The Loss and Separation course has a specific focus on recognising the overwhelming effects that death of a loved one can have on a young person’s life.
At the same time the course, acknowledges the suffering that can result from many other types of loss such as separation or a divorce, the breakdown of a friendship, or the experience of rejection and isolation from the wider group.
It should also go without saying that these concerns are of vital practical importance to the schools as well, since the consequent behaviours of any bereaved person can be unpredictable and can be found across a wide spectrum.
Thus, the students for whom this placement might be appropriate may well be angry, very distressed, withdrawn, depressed or in shock etc. It ought not to be presumed that recovery is possible for such a young person for perhaps a considerable length of time. |
