The Learning and Teaching team have started to support a significant number of new schools. Seven new support arrangements have been made for the period 6th June to 25th July 2005. Following detailed discussions with teachers, an action plan for each support agreement has been written and is being sent to schools.

Currently, the Learning and Teaching Team are providing support for:
  • Hollington: Numeracy and Literacy
  • Christ Church
  • Castledown
  • St Paul's
  • Little Ridge
  • Churchwood
  • West St. Leonards
  • St Mary Star of the Sea
  • St. Leonards
Continued Coaching at Dudley Infants
The L & T Consultant has been working closely with Dudley Infants School to continue the work started last year on coaching. An action plan has been agreed which will form the basis for development in this area.

Other schools have expressed a strong interest in developing coaching in their schools and some of these are being approached to agree the nature of their involvement. Following the work with Dudley Infants, a case study of coaching at the school has been written.
Caribbean Challenge launched at St Leonards
The Caribbean Challenge, a problem solving adventure based maths game, has been successfully launched at St Leonards.

Thirty year 6 pupils play the game on a weekly basis, receiving individual support and attention from a representative from the Excellence Cluster.
Moving On/Transition Projects
Support for transition between Key Stages 2 and 3 is continuing. All primary schools have now received copies of the Moving On Passports, and folders to contain the English and maths bridging units.

In addition, Heads of Maths and English from secondary schools and representatives from primary schools attended a meeting in June to share good practice with regard to the use of bridging units.
Year 10 Pupils support the Reading Challenge
Eight Year 10 pupils from William Parker have been trained to support younger pupils with the Reading Challenge.

This has involved developing an understanding of appropriate levels of literacy and guidance on how to motivate and support younger children.
